I figured I could do this better two ways : using a thermometer or using a timer. I still use both methods. I have found over time that I use a thermometer with thicker cuts and foods that I am not familiar with. The timer is my everyday go to tool for items I am familiar with like salmon and steaks. My favorite timers are the simplest - Sand Timers. These are simple visual tools that keep you on track. After a few beers by the grill you can find yourself guessing if you closed the lid 3 minutes ago or 15.
I selected these 5 timers using the customer reviews and my own preferences, Being an "Amazon's Choice" also carries some weight. Finally, I always look at the reviews to see the recent ones because a good product can change and the new version might not be as good. But these are both simple and relatively low cost so it is hard to go wrong with good sand times.
This set is the lowest cost of the group but still qualified as "Amazon's Choice". My own experience with timers over the years is that if I don't put them too close to the grill they will last one grilling season, maybe more. If you've never used timers, this might be the set for you. For more information on this site about this product, Read Our Review.
The different colors make it easy to find your favorite timers. The larger size make them easier for children to use. Also an "Amazon's Choice". Read Our Review.
Swpeet 6 Pack 6 Colors Sand Timer
3, 4 and 5 Minute Hourglass Timer
This is like sets #2 and #3 but only has 1, 3 and 5 minute timers. Most of my use of timers is in this short range so that works for me. Usually I am simply reminding myself when to check or flip something. If I have a 1 inch or less steak, I don't want to leave it unattended too long. Read Our Review.
